Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Food Tours and Observatory, Seaside Top. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Tokyo: Yokohama Intl Passenger Terminal (in Yokohama), Kinchakuda Manjushage Park (in Hidaka) and Mt. Takao (in Hachioji). Vancouver, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 13.5- hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of shuttle, flight, and train. The time zone changes from Pacific Standard Time (PST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 17 hour difference. Traveling from Vancouver in October, things will get somewhat warmer in Tokyo: highs are around 26°C and lows about 18°C. The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Step off the beaten path and head to Koko-en and Mt Shosha hiking. Get out of town with these interesting Himeji side-trips: Okayama (Okayama Korakuen Garden & Yumeji Art Museum (Yumeji-Kyodo Bijutsukan)) and Fuji Park (in Wake-cho). The adventure continues: explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, look for gifts at Yamasa Kamaboko Yumesenkan, admire the natural beauty at Himeji City Tegarayama Botanical Garden, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Hiromine Shrine.
