The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Step out of Vilnius to go to Trakai and see Trakai Island Castle Museum, which is approximately 36 minutes away. There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus), get engrossed in the history at Gediminas Castle Tower, visit Uzupis, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Gate of Dawn.
