The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 25th (Fri): take a stroll through Pontocho. Keep things going the next day: explore the activities along Kamogawa River, then explore the historical opulence of Nijo-jo Castle, then make a trip to Mt. Kurama, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shimogamo Jinja.

Traveling by car from Myoko to Kyoto takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Expect a daytime high around 10°C in January, and nighttime lows around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Sun) so you can take a train to Osaka.

Osaka is very close to Kyoto. In January, plan for daily highs up to 10°C, and evening lows to 1°C. You'll have a few hours on the 28th (Mon) to wrap things up before traveling to Myoko.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Shop till you drop at Ginza and Asakusa. Harajuku Takeshita-dori and Ueno are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tokyo: Mt. Takao (in Hachioji), Showa Kinen Park (in Tachikawa) and Enoshima Island (in Fujisawa). There's much more to do: wander the streets of Odaiba, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, and see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum.
