The port city of Otaru has long attracted domestic visitors, drawn in by the city's many historic buildings, and has started to garner international attention, too.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Shimamu Beach and Fukidashi Park. Step out of the city life by going to Shakotan Peninsula and Shinsennuma. Venture out of the city with trips to Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area (in Niseko-cho), Kutchan-cho (Kutchan Natural History Museum, White Isle Niseko, &more) and Cape Kamui (in Shakotan-cho). The adventure continues: take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Yotei and enjoy breathtaking views from Mount Kenashi View Point.

Copenhagen, Denmark to Otaru is an approximately 17-hour flight. You'll lose 8 hours traveling from Copenhagen to Otaru due to the time zone difference. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Copenhagen in July since evenings lows in Otaru dip to 24°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Biei-cho.

Step off the beaten path and head to Tokachidake Bogakudai Observation Tower and Campana Rokkatei. Escape the urban bustle at Daisetsuzan and Shirakaba Road. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Biei-cho: Kamifurano-cho (Farm Tomita Lavender East & Roller Coaster Road), Asahi-dake (in Higashikawa-cho) and Asahikawa (Shinkyu-ji Temple & Ueno Farm). There's still lots to do: admire the natural beauty at Choei Lavender Farm, delve into the lush surroundings at Biruke no Mori, head outdoors with Furano Ski Resort, and take a memorable drive along Patchwork no Michi.

You can drive from Otaru to Biei-cho in 3 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. In July, daytime highs in Biei-cho are 30°C, while nighttime lows are 21°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) so you can go by car to Shari-cho.

Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
Escape the urban bustle at Road to Heaven and Shiretoko National Park. Step off the beaten path and head to Notsuke Peninsula and Shiretoko Peninsula. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Shari-cho: Kiyosato-cho (Kaminoko Pond & Sakura Falls), Lake Kussharo (in Teshikaga-cho) and Shiretoko Highway (in Rausu-cho). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Shiretoko Beach, cruise along Shiretoko Pass, admire the sheer force of Kamuiwakka Hot Waterfall, and get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour.

Drive from Biei-cho to Shari-cho in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and taxi; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Biei-cho in July, you will find days in Shari-cho are little chillier (25°C), and nights are about the same (19°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed) early enough to travel to Hakodate.

Venture out of the city with trips to Nanae-cho (Onuma Quasi-National Park, Onuma Park Walking Path, &more). Next up on the itinerary: try to win big at Hakodate Horse Racetrack, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Maria Church Hakodate, take a stroll through Motomachi, and take in nature's colorful creations at Miharashi Park (Kosetsuen).

Perhaps the island's best-known hot spring resort, Noboribetsu has a long history of tourism.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Oyunuma and Shizukari Wetlands. Your inner history buff will appreciate National Historic Site Pirika and Former Muroran Station Tourist Information Center. Venture out of the city with trips to Showashinzan (in Sobetsu-cho), Toyako-cho (Toyako Volcano Science Museum & Silo Viewing Platform) and Shiraoi Ainu Musuem and Village (in Shiraoi-cho). There's still lots to do: get outside with Itanki Beach, see the interesting displays at Pirika Old Stone Bunkakan, take in the spiritual surroundings of Oshamanbe Inari Shrine, and don't miss a visit to Onibokora.

You can take a train from Hakodate to Noboribetsu in 3 hours. Another option is to drive. In July in Noboribetsu, expect temperatures between 26°C during the day and 19°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 30th (Thu) to allow time for travel back home.
