The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Venture out of the city with trips to Osaka (Dotonbori & Osaka Castle). There's much more to do: wander the streets of Gion, explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, and contemplate the long history of Heian Shrine.

Traveling by car from Iwami-cho to Kyoto takes 3.5 hours. When traveling from Iwami-cho in June, plan for a bit warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 32°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sat) so you can travel to Miyakojima.
