Matsue sits on the banks of the Ohashi-gawa river, channeling its waters through a series of canals and rivers that add much to the scenic aspect of the urban area.
Let the collections at Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo and Adachi Museum of Art capture your imagination. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Yaegaki Shrine and Shimane Art Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Matsue: Izumo (Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse, Hinomisaki Shrine, &more). Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Yamato Museum and Itsukushima Shrine. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at JMSDF Kure Museum and Daishoin Temple. Explore Hiroshima's surroundings by going to Hatsukaichi (Senjokaku & Miyajima). Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Relax by the water at Kondoi Beach and Yonehara Beach. Step off the beaten path and head to Cape Hirakubozaki and Tamatorizaki Observatory. There's lots more to do: glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki takes 6 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. In February, Ishigaki is much hotter than Hiroshima - with highs of 25°C and lows of 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Wed) early enough to travel to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Family-friendly places like Toguchi no Hama and Irabu Ohashi will thrill your kids. Visiting Sunayama Beach and Yonaha Maehama Beach will get you outdoors. There's still lots to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, and get outside with Aragusuku Beach.

The town of Nachikatsuura-cho wows visitors with its superlative landscape and impressive cultural attractions.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Sun): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kumano Hayatama Taisha, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kamikura Shrine, then take in the dramatic scenery at Nachi Mitaki Falls, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Seigantoji Temple.
