Do a combination of train, flight, and taxi from Hiroshima to Yakushima-cho in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, ferry, and taxi; or do a combination of car and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in May, and nighttime lows around 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Sat) early enough to travel to Takachiho-cho.

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Sun): take in the pleasant sights at Amanoyasu Kawara, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Amano Iwato Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kaguraden, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Takachiho Shrine, then explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Amanomanai. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the striking landscape at Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces, contemplate the waterfront views at Kawauda Spring, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Nyuta Nakashima Park.

Traveling by combination of taxi, flight, and train from Yakushima-cho to Takachiho-cho takes 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of taxi, flight, and bus. In May, daytime highs in Takachiho-cho are 29°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Mon) so you can travel to Ishigaki.

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Banna Park and Kayaking & Canoeing. Next up on the itinerary: stroll through Kabira Park, take in panoramic vistas at Maesedake Observation Site, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and head outdoors with Cape Hirakubozaki.

Traveling by flight from Takachiho-cho to Ishigaki takes 7 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Takachiho-cho in May: high temperatures in Ishigaki hover around 34°C and lows are around 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Thu) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.
