Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Cape Hirakubozaki and Kondoi Beach. Head to Yurateiku Market and Nei Museum of Artfor some retail therapy. Change things up with a short trip to Nakamoto Beach in Kuro-shima (about 1h 25 min away). There's still lots to do: get outside with Yonehara Beach, enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, stroll around Banna Park, and take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier.

London, UK to Ishigaki is an approximately 19.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Greenwich Mean Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 9 hour difference. A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visit Yonaha Maehama Beach and Toguchi no Hama for some beach relaxation. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sunayama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, tour the pleasant surroundings at Imugya Marine Garden, take in the views from Kurima Bridge, and look for all kinds of wild species at Yabiji.

Get some cultural insight at Daishoin Temple and Itsukushima Shrine. Your inner history buff will appreciate Itsukushima Shrine Torii and Miyajima. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hiroshima: Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Gekijyo & Senjokaku). Do a combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Hiroshima in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Miyakojima in May; daily highs in Hiroshima reach 28°C and lows reach 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In May, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 29°C, while at night they dip to 17°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to travel to Tokyo.
