A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Escape the urban bustle at Yabiji and Toguchi no Hama. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Aragusuku Beach and Sunayama Beach. There's still lots to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, and make a trip to Ikema Ohashi Bridge.

Hamburg, Germany to Miyakojima is an approximately 19.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Hamburg to Miyakojima is 8 hours. When traveling from Hamburg in August, plan for somewhat warmer days and much hotter nights in Miyakojima: temperatures range from 37°C by day to 31°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Tue) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Wed): take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, and then glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area. Here are some ideas for day two: kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach, stop by Yurateiku Market, and then kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Sefa-Utaki and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Onna Station Nakayukui Market and AEONMALL OKINAWA RYCOM. Change things up with these side-trips from Onna-son: Katsuren Castle Ruins (in Uruma) and Nakijin Castle Ruins (in Nakijin-son). There's more to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour and explore the striking landscape at Cape Manzamo.

Getting from Ishigaki to Onna-son by combination of flight and bus takes about 5 hours. In August, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 30°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Sun) early enough to travel to Nachikatsura-cho.

Start off your visit on the 10th (Mon): tour the pleasant surroundings at Hashigui Rock, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kamikura Shrine, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Shichiri Mihama Beach, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kumano Hayatama Taisha, and finally don't miss a visit to Daimonzaka. Getting from Onna-son to Nachikatsura-cho by combination of flight and train takes about 7 hours. Other options: do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry and car. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in August, and nighttime lows around 31°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Visit Toji and Eikando Zenrinji Temple for their historical value. Head to Dotonbori and Maiko Antiques Kyotofor some retail therapy. There's much more to do: explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, and don't miss a visit to Gion.

Getting from Nachikatsura-cho to Kyoto by car takes about 3 hours. Other options: take a train; or do a combination of car and bus. Expect a daytime high around 39°C in August, and nighttime lows around 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Fri) so you can travel to Tokyo.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Head to Minato Mirai 21 and Pola Museum of Artfor plenty of shopping. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Asakusa Shrine and Tokyo National Museum. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sensō-ji, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, shop like a local with Takeshita Street, and wander the streets of Ginza.

Take a train from Kyoto to Tokyo in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In August, daytime highs in Tokyo are 36°C, while nighttime lows are 28°C. On the 18th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
