Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) (AEST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. Expect cooler temperatures when traveling from Sydney in February; daily highs in Tokyo reach 12°C and lows reach 2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can travel to Hakuba-mura.

Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
Step out of Hakuba-mura to go to Nagano and see Zenko-ji Temple, which is approximately 48 minutes away. There's much more to do: fly down the slopes at Hakuba Happoone Ski Resort, get outside with Shirasawa Tunnel, take a stroll through Hakuba, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park.

You can do a combination of train and bus from Tokyo to Hakuba-mura in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Tokyo in February; daily highs in Hakuba-mura reach 4°C and lows reach -2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) so you can drive to Kyoto.

Kyoto is known for historic sites, shopping, classes, parks, and museums. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the pleasant sights at Arashiyama, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

You can drive from Hakuba-mura to Kyoto in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. When traveling from Hakuba-mura in March, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 16°C by day to 5°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can take a train to Osaka.

Change things up with a short trip to Himeji Castle in Himeji (about 1h 20 min away). There's lots more to do: find something for the whole family at Universal Studios Japan, take in the spiritual surroundings of Senko-ji Temple, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, and wander the streets of Dotonbori.

Osaka is very close to Kyoto. March in Osaka sees daily highs of 16°C and lows of 5°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Hiroshima.
