Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Thu): see the interesting displays at Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato), get a sense of history and politics at Takayama Jinya, then examine the collection at Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Takayama City Office. On the 21st (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: get to know the fascinating history of The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Traditional Houses in the Gassho Style, get engrossed in the history at Gassho Zukuri Minka-en, and then wander the streets of Sanmachi Suji.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Shokokuji Temple, Koetsu-ji Temple, Yoshimine-dera Temple, and other attractions you added. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari Taisha, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kasuga Shrine, and take a stroll through Gion.
