Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Get outdoors at Little Beach and Harewood Forest. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Middleton Beach and Elephant Rocks. Take a break from Albany with a short trip to Greens Pool in Denmark, about 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Albany's Historic Whaling Station, examine the collection at National Anzac Centre, and take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap and Natural Bridge.

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tasmanian Devil Unzoo and Dolphin & Whale Watching. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Constitution Dock and Hobart Convict Penitentiary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hobart: The Parsonage (in Port Arthur) and Russell Falls (in Mount Field National Park).
