Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and Gulliver's Gate. Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site and Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore New York City's surroundings by going to Allaire State Park (in Farmingdale), Old Barracks Museum (in Trenton) and Sleepy Hollow (Sleepy Hollow Cemetery & Kykuit). There's lots more to do: get lost in a book at The Morgan Library & Museum, stroll around SeaGlass Carousel at The Battery, take a stroll through Dumbo, and explore the world behind art at Princeton University Art Museum.
