Kick off your visit on the 4th (Tue): see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, and then explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum. Here are some ideas for day two: ponder the world of politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, then ponder the world of politics at Imperial Palace, and finally admire the masterpieces at Ghibli Museum Mitaka.

Kick off your visit on the 16th (Sun): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Nantai, go for a walk through Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Taiyuimbyo Shrine. Traveling by train from Kyoto to Nikko takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Kyoto in February, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 5°C in Nikko. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 18th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
