Popular historic sites such as Ise Grand Shrine and Nagoya Castle are in your itinerary. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Nakasendo Magome Walking Trail. And it doesn't end there: meet the residents at Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, take a stroll through Sakae, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Hosho-in (Osu Kannon).

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Get a sense of the local culture at Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) and Sapporo Clock Tower. Get some historical perspective at Former Hokkaido Government Office Building and Hokkaido Jingu. There's still lots to do: take a stroll around Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town, see the interesting displays at Sapporo Beer Museum, walk around Odori Park, and enjoy breathtaking views from Okurayama Lookout.

The port city of Otaru has long attracted domestic visitors, drawn in by the city's many historic buildings, and has started to garner international attention, too.
Take a break from the city and head to Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Place and Shimamu Beach. Otaru Museum, Bank of Japan and Sumiyoshi Shrine are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Otaru: Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho) and Fukidashi Park (in Kyogoku-cho). There's lots more to do: stop by Otaru Music Box Museum Main Building, see the interesting displays at Otaru Orgel Museum 2nd Building Antique, browse the eclectic array of goods at Sankaku Market, and contemplate the long history of The Site of Temiya Line.

Take a train from Sapporo to Otaru in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or drive. In December in Otaru, expect temperatures between 0°C during the day and -2°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
