Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Get a sense of the local culture at Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica. Appreciate the collections at Vatican Museums and Musei Capitolini. Step out of Rome to go to Ostia Antica and see Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica, which is approximately 42 minutes away. There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico, ponder the design of Trevi Fountain, steep yourself in history at Roman Forum, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St. Louis of the French.
