You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Liberty Statue and Budatower will appeal to history buffs. Step off the beaten path and head to Margaret Island and Vajdahunyad Castle (Vajdahunyadvar). Venture out of the city with trips to Ram Szakadek (in Domos), Lazar Equestrian Park (in Domony) and Esztergom Basilica / Cathedral (in Esztergom). Pécs is the fifth largest city of Hungary, located on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains in the south-west of the country, close to its border with Croatia. Discover out-of-the-way places like Sopianae cemetery at Pecs and Gere Attila Pinceszete- Winery. Get a sense of the local culture at Bishop's Palace (Puspoki palota) and Jakovali Hassan Mosque and Museum. Nestled between the Matra and Bukk Mountains in northern Hungary, Eger represents a mixture of historical discovery and relaxing pleasures.
Visit Sirok Castle and Szentharomsag Church for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at Kisnanai Var and Recsk National Memorial Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Miskolc (Avas Church, Miskolc Greek Catholic Cathedral of Assumption, &more) and Cistercian Abbey of Belapatfalva (in Belapatfalva). There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Minorita Templom, do a tasting at Kovacs Nimrod Winery, browse the different shops at Agria Park Shopping Center, and don't miss a visit to Lyceum.
