The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Popular historic sites such as Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine are in your itinerary. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Ninna-ji Temple and Ise Shrine Geku. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Obakusan Manpuku - ji Temple (in Uji) and Ise (Oharai-machi & Sarutahiko Shrine). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Shimogamo Jinja, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Kurama, make a trip to Gion, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 11-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time (SGT) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect much colder temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Kyoto reach 13°C and lows reach 4°C. Kids will enjoy Universal Studios Japan and Kids Plaza Osaka. Do some cultural sightseeing at Horyu-ji Temple and Omiwa Shrine. Get out of town with these interesting Osaka side-trips: Himeji Castle (in Himeji), Arima Onsen (in Kita) and Sakurai (Hase-dera Temple & Tanzan Shrine). There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Toshodaiji Temple, take a stroll through Dotonbori, contemplate the long history of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Osaka Castle.
