Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 and Tokyo National Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Museum-lovers will appreciate Edo-Tokyo Museum and Samurai Museum. There's much more to do: wander the streets of Odaiba District, admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower, take in the spiritual surroundings of Senso-ji Temple, and make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine.

An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Wed): admire the landmark architecture of Tsuzumi Gate, steep yourself in history at Nomura Family Samurai House, steep yourself in history at Oyama Shrine, stroll around Kenrokuen Garden, thenexamine the collection at D. T. Suzuki Museum, and finally examine the collection at Ishikawa Prefectural Museum for Traditional Products and Crafts. On your second day here, contemplate the long history of Suganuma Gassho Community, take a stroll through Gokayama, thentake a memorable drive along Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, and finally browse the different shops at Kanazawa Hyakubangai Shopping Center.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to Shimogamo Jinja and Tofuku-ji Temple. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Sanjusangendo Temple. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Jikko Japanese Knife Shop Namba Skyo (in Namba) and Dotombori District (in Dotombori). And it doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and take a stroll through Gion.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Tue): make a trip to East Henna Cape, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, head outdoors with Aragusuku Beach, take a memorable tour with Tours, thenkick back and relax at Sunayama Beach, and finally take in the views from Irabu Ohashi. Keep things going the next day: head off the coast to Shimojiiima Island, get outside with Toguchi no Hama, step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island, thensnap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, and finally explore the gorgeous colors at Yabiji.

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Get some cultural insight at Sefa-Utaki and Zakimi Castle Ruins. Head to Onna Station Nakayukui Market and AEONMALL OKINAWA RYCOMfor some retail therapy. Venture out of the city with trips to Nakijin-son (Kouri Beach & Nakijin Castle Ruins), Katsuren Castle Ruins (in Uruma) and Motobu-cho (Okichan Theater & Okinawa Memorial Park Ocean Expo Park).
