A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visiting Yabiji and Toguchi no Hama will get you outdoors. Visit Aragusuku Beach and Yonaha Maehama Beach for some beach relaxation. There's much more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Sunayama Beach, head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, take in the views from Kurima Bridge, and visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
On the 15th (Sat), stroll through Yonehara Beach, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, and then enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory. Here are some ideas for day two: glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, then stop by Yurateiku Market, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Kondoi Beach.

You'll discover tucked-away gems like Kennin-ji Temple and Toji. For shopping fun, head to Dotonbori or Nishiki Market. Step out of Kyoto to go to Osaka and see Osaka Castle, which is approximately 1h 10 min away.
