Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Head to Ginza and Takeshita Streetfor some retail therapy. Tokyo National Museum and Sensō-ji will appeal to history buffs. Go for a jaunt from Tokyo to Mitaka to see Ghibli Museum Mitaka about 44 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum, admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower, wander the streets of Asakusa, and browse the exhibits of Wa Space.

Toronto, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 14 hour difference. Expect a bit warmer temperatures when traveling from Toronto in July; daily highs in Tokyo reach 36°C and lows reach 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Shimoda.

On a trip to Shimoda, a small town nestled on the tip of the Izu peninsula, you can take advantage of the scenic sandy beaches and soak in the laid-back atmosphere.
Visiting Otago Beach and Inatori Ukiuki Beach will get you outdoors. You'll get in some beach time at Ita Beach and Toi Beach. Go for a jaunt from Shimoda to Matsuzaki-cho to see Kumi Beach about 50 minutes away. The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Tatadohama Beach, kick back and relax at Kisami Ohama Beach, and see the interesting displays at Izu Naranda no Sato Kawazu Heian Buddha Statue Pavilion.

Drive from Tokyo to Shimoda in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Traveling from Tokyo in July, you will find days in Shimoda are slightly colder (32°C), and nights are about the same (28°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) so you can travel to Miyakojima.
