A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Tobu World Square, Akechidaira Observation Area, Kegon Falls, and other attractions you added. Start off your visit on the 26th (Thu): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nikko Tosho-gu, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Taiyuimbyo Shrine, contemplate the long history of Yomeimon (Main Gate), then steep yourself in history at Nikko Futarasan jinja, and finally take in the dramatic natural features at Kammangafuchi Gorge. On the next day, take in panoramic vistas at Akechidaira Observation Area, then take in the dramatic scenery at Kegon Falls, and then get in on the family fun at Tobu World Square.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Nikko in 2 hours. Another option is to drive. While traveling from Tokyo, expect little chillier days and a bit warmer nights in Nikko, ranging from highs of 49°F to lows of 45°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.
