Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Explore Inverness' surroundings by going to Aviemore (Loch Morlich & River Rafting & Tubing), Landmark Forest Adventure Park (in Carrbridge) and Aigas Field Centre (in Beauly). There's much more to do: gain some tasty knowledge on a distillery tour, take in the views from Greig Street Bridge, don't miss a visit to Culloden Battlefield, and walk around Ness Islands.

London to Inverness is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. In July, Inverness is little chillier than London - with highs of 22°C and lows of 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Wed) early enough to drive to Durness.

Durness

Durness is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. Start off your visit on the 9th (Thu): enjoy the sand and surf at Sandwood Bay Beach, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Balnakeil Beach, and then kick back and relax at Durness Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: head off the coast to Handa Island Wildlife Reserve and then kick back and relax at Sango Bay.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. On the 12th (Sun), admire the sheer force of Steall Waterfall, explore the activities along Loch Linnhe Picnic Area, then identify plant and animal life at Highland Titles Nature Reserve, and finally appreciate the views at Glen Coe. On the next day, see the interesting displays at West Highland Museum, then tour the pleasant surroundings at West Highland Way, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Glen Etive.
