The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Do your shopping at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakata. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Fukuoka: Mojiko Retro (in Kitakyushu), Komenoyama Obsevatory (in Sasaguri-machi) and Dazaifu Tenman-gu (in Dazaifu). There's much more to do: stroll through Ohori Park, see the interesting displays at Kurume World Camellia Museum, don't miss a visit to Hakata Station, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Fukuoka is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Singapore to Fukuoka, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Singapore in November, expect Fukuoka to be cooler, temps between 20°C and 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Thu) so you can go by car to Sasebo.

Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
