Centered around its castle, Kumamoto stands as a historic city with plenty of modern-day appeal to add to the mix.
On the 7th (Sun), stroll around Suizenji Jojuen Garden, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kato Shrine, and then explore the historical opulence of Kumamoto Castle.

Brussels, Belgium to Kumamoto is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of train and flight. The time zone difference moving from Central European Time (CET) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 8 hours. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Brussels in June; daily highs in Kumamoto reach 30°C and lows reach 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sun) so you can take a train to Kagoshima.

Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
On the 8th (Mon), go for a walk through Sengan-en, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Shiroyama, then contemplate the geological forces at Sakurajima, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Arata Hachimangu. On the 9th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: tour the pleasant surroundings at Sekiyoshi Sluice Gate of Yoshino Leat, then take in panoramic vistas at Yunohira Lookout, then make a trip to Kareigawa Station, and finally steep yourself in history at Chiran Samurai Residence Garden.

You can take a train from Kumamoto to Kagoshima in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In June in Kagoshima, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 22°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Tue) so you can travel to Yakushima-cho.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Yakusugi Land and Anbo River. Step out of the city life by going to Seibu Trail and Mt. Miyanouradake. There's much more to do: hike along Yaksushima Trecking, Jomon Japanese Cedar Course, admire the verdant scenery at Yoggo Valley, and make a trip to Kigensugi Cedar.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Kagoshima to Yakushima-cho in 3.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of ferry and taxi. In June, daily temperatures in Yakushima-cho can reach 30°C, while at night they dip to 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Nagasaki.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Yutoku Inari Shrine and Suwa Shrine. Explore hidden gems such as Nyokodo, Nagai Takashi Museum and Kofukuji Temple. Change things up with a short trip to Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo (about 1h 15 min away). Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Glover Garden, take an in-depth tour of Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Catholic Church Hongouchi, and walk around Nagasaki Peace Park.

Traveling by combination of taxi, flight, and train from Yakushima-cho to Nagasaki takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, ferry, and train; or do a combination of car and ferry. In June, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Beppu.

The resort town of Beppu puts the geothermal nature of the region to good use.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Nabegataki Falls and Rakanji Temple. Usajingu Shrine and Kumano Magaibutsu will appeal to history buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Beppu: Kunisaki (Rurikoji Temple & Futagoji Temple), Fukiji Temple (in Bungotakada) and Oka Castle Ruins (in Taketa). There's lots more to do: hike along Mt. Tsurumi, soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, take in the natural beauty of Hells of Beppu, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Anrakuji Temple.

Drive from Nagasaki to Beppu in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. While traveling from Nagasaki, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Beppu, ranging from highs of 27°C to lows of 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 19th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Nanzoin, get to know the fascinating history of Yoshinogari Historical Park, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Tenkai Inari Shrine, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Miyajidake Shrine. On the 20th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: stroll around Ohori Park, take in the spiritual surroundings of Hakozaki Shrine, then contemplate the long history of Former Takatori House, and finally contemplate the long history of Imari Okawachiyama.
