Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Step out of Tokyo to go to Maihama and see Tokyo DisneySea, which is approximately 30 minutes away. There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Odaiba, tour the pleasant surroundings at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, get a taste of the local shopping with Ginza, and admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower.

Launceston, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 17-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (Tasmania) (AEST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Launceston in May: highs in Tokyo hover around 28°C, while lows dip to 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Sun) early enough to take a train to Kanazawa.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Universal Studios Japan (in Konohana) and Dotonbori (in Osaka). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Gion, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Traveling by train from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. May in Kyoto sees daily highs of 29°C and lows of 17°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) early enough to take a train to Himeji.
