The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka--about 1h 15 min away. Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and go for a walk through Arashiyama.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In June, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) to allow time to take a train to Hiroshima.

On the 24th (Wed), step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle, pause for some photo ops at Atomic Bomb Dome, then don't miss a visit to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and finally examine the collection at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. You can take a train from Kyoto to Hiroshima in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In June in Hiroshima, expect temperatures between 30°C during the day and 23°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Thu) so you can travel to Motobu-cho.

Motobu-cho

Formed by the gradual merging of several old fishing villages, today the island town of Motobu-cho boasts paradisal beaches of white sand, clear waters, and a rich array of wildlife.
On the 26th (Fri), glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area and then meet the residents at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. On the 27th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour and then admire nature's wide array of creatures at Okichan Theater.

Getting from Hiroshima to Motobu-cho by combination of flight and bus takes about 7 hours. Other options: do a combination of train, flight, and bus; or do a combination of train and ferry. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Hiroshima in June: high temperatures in Motobu-cho hover around 34°C and lows are around 29°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Sat) so you can travel to Ishigaki.

Kick off your visit on the 28th (Sun): kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach, explore the activities along Kabira Bay, then see the sky in a new way at Ishigakijima Observatory, and finally enjoy breathtaking views from Maesedake Observation Site. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 29th (Mon): identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and then don't miss a visit to Euglena Mall.

Getting from Motobu-cho to Ishigaki by combination of bus and flight takes about 5.5 hours. In June, daytime highs in Ishigaki are 37°C, while nighttime lows are 32°C. On the 30th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
