Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get a sense of the local culture at Asakusa Shrine and Mitsumine Shrine (Chichibu). Get some historical perspective at Kencho-ji Temple and Hokokuji Temple (Takedera Temple). Go for a jaunt from Tokyo to Onjuku-machi to see Koura Beach about 2 hours away. And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sensō-ji, wander the streets of Yanaka, make a trip to Nezu Shrine, and contemplate the long history of Hie Jinjya.

Toronto, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Toronto to Tokyo, you'll lose 14 hours due to the time zone difference. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Toronto in September, with highs in Tokyo at 81°F and lows at 69°F. Start off your visit on the 20th (Fri): take in the spiritual surroundings of Toshodaiji Temple, sample the tasty concoctions at Harushika Brewery, then get engrossed in the history at Nara National Museum, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple, and finally walk around Nara Park.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Nara takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In September in Nara, expect temperatures between 83°F during the day and 73°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Fri) so you can take a train to Osaka.

Kick off your visit on the 21st (Sat): explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, take in panoramic vistas at Harukas 300 Observation Deck, then make a trip to Hozenji Yokocho, then don't miss a visit to Hōzen-ji Temple, and finally wander the streets of Dotonbori. Getting from Nara to Osaka by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive. In September, daytime highs in Osaka are 82°F, while nighttime lows are 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.
