Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Sunayama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. Escape the urban bustle at Yabiji and Scuba & Snorkeling. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, snap pictures at Kurima Bridge, make a trip to Ikema Ohashi Bridge, and stroll through Yonaha Maehama Beach.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
On the 2nd (Wed), take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, then get outside with Cape Hirakubozaki, and then glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area. Keep things going the next day: enjoy the sand and surf at Yonehara Beach, then look for gifts at Yurateiku Market, and then kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach.

Traveling from Nachikatsura-cho in October, plan for slightly colder nights in Kyoto, with lows around 60°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Tokyo.
