Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 and Tokyo National Museum. Head to Ginza and Asakusafor some retail therapy. There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, wander the streets of Odaiba District, don't miss a visit to Takeshita Street, and get your game on at Owl Cafe Akiba Fukurou.

Singapore, Singapore to Tokyo is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone changes from Singapore Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Plan for colder temperatures traveling from Singapore in December, with highs in Tokyo at 14°C and lows at 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) to allow time to travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Tofuku-ji Temple and Eikando Zenrinji Temple. Get some historical perspective at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Ise Shrine Geku. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Dotombori District (in Dotombori), Oharai-machi (in Ise) and Himeji Castle (in Himeji). There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, wander the streets of Gion, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Iriomote-jima.

Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) so you can travel to Ishigaki.
