Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Tue): don't miss a visit to Owaku-dani Valley, take some stellar pictures from Hakone Ropeway, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Ashi (Ashinoko), then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kuzuryu Shrine, then steep yourself in history at Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, and finally make a splash at Hakone Kowakien Yunessun. Getting from Kyoto to Hakone-machi by train takes about 4 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of train and flight. When traveling from Kyoto in October, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Hakone-machi: temperatures range from 62°F by day to 59°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Wed) early enough to drive to Tokyo.

Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Hakone-machi in October: highs in Tokyo hover around 72°F, while lows dip to 60°F. On the 27th (Sun), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
