The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Tue): hike along Mt Shosha hiking, then step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, and then contemplate the long history of Nishi no Maru. Keep things going the next day: admire the natural beauty at Kokoen Garden, contemplate the long history of Yoneda Taishiji Temple, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura, and finally take a stroll through Chinatown (Nankinmachi).

Take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In April, daytime highs in Himeji are 20°C, while nighttime lows are 14°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Wed) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

Getting from Himeji to Kyoto by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In April, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 22°C, while at night they dip to 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Fujikawaguchiko-machi.

A resort town located in the foothills of Mount Fuji, Fujikawaguchiko-machi acts as a base for many who plan to take one of the trails up the iconic volcano.
