The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto to go to Konohana and see Universal Studios Japan, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, don't miss a visit to Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Sydney, Australia to Kyoto is an approximately 13.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. The time zone difference moving from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) to Japan Standard Time is minus 1 hour. The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Fri): step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en, make a trip to Otemae Street, then make a trip to Shoshazan Engyoji, and finally make a trip to Shoshazan Ropeway.
