Take a break from Osaka with a short trip to Himeji Castle in Himeji, about 1h 20 min away. There's lots more to do: find something for the whole family at Universal Studios Japan, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, have some family-friendly fun at Sunset Owl Cafe, and examine the collection at Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): see the sky in a new way at Kamo Planetarium and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 25th (Wed): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kofuku-ji Temple, contemplate the long history of Todai-ji Temple, then examine the collection at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, then look for all kinds of wild species at Nara Park, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kasuga Grand Shrine.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
On the 27th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and then make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. On your second day here, get engrossed in the history at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, then step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and finally take a stroll through Gion.

You can take a train from Nara to Kyoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and subway. Traveling from Nara in March, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Kyoto, with lows of 40°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to travel to Hakone-machi.

Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sun): explore the world behind art at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, explore the activities along Lake Ashi (Ashinoko), then take some stellar pictures from Hakone Ropeway, and finally don't miss a visit to Owaku-dani Valley.

Getting from Kyoto to Hakone-machi by train takes about 4 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of train and flight. Traveling from Kyoto in March, you will find days in Hakone-machi are slightly colder (47°F), and nights are about the same (43°F). Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) so you can travel to Tokyo.

When traveling from Hakone-machi in March, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Tokyo: temperatures range from 58°F by day to 43°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) so you can travel back home.
