Built on a desolate swamp as a showcase capital of Imperial Russia, this grand city has certainly lived up to the expectations of its founder, Tsar Peter the Great.
Shop till you drop at Nevsky Prospekt and Art Bank. Museum-lovers will get to explore Saint Isaac's Cathedral and Russian Museum. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Peter and Paul Fortress, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas, contemplate the long history of Memorial Sign Strelka Of Vasilievskiy Island, and examine the collection at Monplaisir Historical Palace Museum.
