Known for its volcanic forested interior, Reunion Island also features beaches and coral reefs. The island's most famous landmark is a climbable volcano (active), standing over 2,600 m (8,600 ft) above sea level. Other climbing destinations include an extinct volcano and three calderas, a type of naturally formed amphitheaters created by collapsed volcanoes.
