The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
When in Vilnius, make a side trip to see Trakai Island Castle Museum in Trakai, approximately 36 minutes away. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus), take a stroll through Uzupis, take in the local highlights with Walking tours, and take in the awesome beauty at Hill of Three Crosses.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Vilnius is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of shuttle and flight; or drive. The time zone changes from Gulf Standard Time (GST) to Eastern European Time (EET), which is usually a -2 hour difference. Plan for cooler temperatures traveling from Dubai in January, with highs in Vilnius at -3°C and lows at -9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) so you can drive to Utena.

Utena is a city in north-east Lithuania. Kick off your visit on the 15th (Wed): see the interesting displays at Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, appreciate the history behind Laimes ziburys, then make a trip to Rubikiai Observation Tower, and finally stroll around Dauniskio Park. Keep things going the next day: take in panoramic vistas at The observation deck on the lake Zarasas, take in the spiritual surroundings of Paluse St. Joseph's Church, make a trip to Sculpture for Ignas and Lina, then take in the dramatic natural features at Ladakalnis, and finally stroll around VestuviU Kalnas.

Šiauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania, with a population of 133,900. Start off your visit on the 17th (Fri): look for gifts at Akropolis, then don't miss a visit to Chaimas Frenkelis Vila, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Hill of Crosses - Kryziu Kalnas, and finally examine the collection at The Angel Museum. On your second day here, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Siauliai Saint Disciple Peter and Paul Cathedral, then pause for some serene contemplation at St. George's Church, then examine the collection at Siauliai Ausros Museum, and finally see the interesting displays at Joniskis Basketball Museum.

Traveling by car from Utena to Siauliai takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In January, daily temperatures in Siauliai can reach -3°C, while at night they dip to -9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Klaipeda.
