The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Attractions like Huis Ten Bosch and Nagasaki Bio Park make great kid-friendly stops. Step out of Nagasaki to go to Sasebo and see Domtoren, which is approximately 1h 30 min away. There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Inasa, snap pictures at Megane Bridge, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Urakami Cathedral.

Singapore, Singapore to Nagasaki is an approximately 11.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Nagasaki. Traveling from Singapore in December, things will get colder in Nagasaki: highs are around 13°C and lows about 7°C. On the 18th (Wed), you'll have the morning to explore before heading off to Aso.

Formed in 2005 after the merger of several smaller towns, Aso still offers a break from the urbane.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Wed): take some stellar pictures from Daikanbo and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kuninomiyatsuko Shrine. Keep things going the next day: take in the views from Kokonoe Yume Otsurihashi Bridge, then take a memorable drive along Kusasenri, and then get to know the resident critters at Cuddly Dominion.

You can drive from Nagasaki to Aso in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Nagasaki in December, expect a bit cooler with lows of 3°C in Aso. You will have some time to spend on the 20th (Fri) before leaving for Kumamoto.

Centered around its castle, Kumamoto stands as a historic city with plenty of modern-day appeal to add to the mix.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Fri): admire the masterpieces at Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, then walk around Suizenji Jojuen Garden, then explore the historical opulence of Kumamoto Castle, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kato Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 21st (Sat): find something for the whole family at Green Land and then make a trip to Shimotori Shotengai.

Take a train from Aso to Kumamoto in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December in Kumamoto, expect temperatures between 12°C during the day and 3°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 22nd (Sun) to allow time for the train ride to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History and Kaikyokan. Get out of town with these interesting Fukuoka side-trips: Dazaifu Temmangu (in Dazaifu) and Old Ito Denemon House (in Iizuka). Take a train from Kumamoto to Fukuoka in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December, daily temperatures in Fukuoka can reach 13°C, while at night they dip to 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Thu) to allow time to travel back home.
