Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
On the 26th (Wed), make a trip to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, pause for some photo ops at The Cenotaph, then pause for some photo ops at Children's Peace Monument, and finally head off the coast to Miyajima. On your second day here, see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, appreciate the history behind Atomic Bomb Dome, and then explore the historical opulence of Hiroshima Castle.

Melbourne, Australia to Hiroshima is an approximately 16.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (Victoria) to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference. When in Tokyo, make a side trip to see Tokyo DisneySea in Urayasu, approximately 30 minutes away. Have a day of magic on the 4th (Thu) at Tokyo Disneyland. There's lots more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, have some family-friendly fun at Owl cafe Akiba Fukurou, examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and take in panoramic vistas at Tokyo Skytree.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Tokyo takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. In July in Tokyo, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 27°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
