Melbourne, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (Victoria) (AEST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. The coastal town of Kamakura sits close to Tokyo, with the ancient settlement featuring a number of important historical and cultural sites.
On the 26th (Wed), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kōtoku-in, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hase-dera Temple, then get outside with Zaimokuza Beach, and finally steep yourself in history at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. On your second day here, enjoy the sand and surf at Morito Beach, then get outside with Akiya, Tateishi Coast, then enjoy the sand and surf at Moroiso Shores, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Chigogafuchi Marine Plateau.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kamakura in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in August, you will find days in Kamakura are slightly colder (31°C), and nights are about the same (29°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Thu) to allow time to take a train to Kanazawa.

Traveling from Kamakura in August, expect nights in Kanazawa to be about the same, around 27°C, while days are a bit warmer, around 35°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

Take a train from Kanazawa to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Kanazawa in August: highs in Kyoto hover around 39°C, while lows dip to 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Tue) to allow enough time to take a train to Himeji.
