The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Tofuku-ji Temple and Yasaka Shrine. Nijo Castle and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, take a stroll through Gion, and get a taste of the local shopping with Dotonbori.

Mexico City, Mexico to Kyoto is an approximately 19-hour combination of flight and train. You can also do a combination of flight, bus, and train; or do a combination of bus, flight, and train. You'll lose 15 hours traveling from Mexico City to Kyoto due to the time zone difference. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Mexico City in September: high temperatures in Kyoto hover around 33°C and lows are around 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Himeji.

You can take a train from Himeji to Hiroshima in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive. In September, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
On the 29th (Sun), visit a coastal fixture at Cape Hirakubozaki, enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, then stroll through Yonehara Beach, and finally stroll through Kabira Park. On the next day, enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier, take in panoramic vistas at Maesedake Observation Site, then stroll through Banna Park, and finally stop by Yurateiku Market.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of ferry and flight. Traveling from Hiroshima in September, expect Ishigaki to be somewhat warmer, temps between 37°C and 30°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Mon) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

On the 1st (Tue), stroll through Sunayama Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, and then kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: kick back and relax at Hora Gyoko no Hama Beach, visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, take in the views from Ikema Ohashi Bridge, then take in the views from Irabu Bridge, and finally kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama.

Getting from Ishigaki to Miyakojima by combination of flight and taxi takes about an hour. In September, daily temperatures in Miyakojima can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 30°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Wed) to allow time to travel to Tokyo.

Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Ginza and Harajuku Takeshita-dori. Get a sense of the local culture at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Change things up with a short trip to Minato Mirai 21 in Yokohama (about 44 minutes away). You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Miyakojima to Tokyo in 4.5 hours. In October, Tokyo is a bit cooler than Miyakojima - with highs of 26°C and lows of 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
