Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Visiting Yonehara Beach and Kabira Bay will get you outdoors. You'll get in some beach time at Kondoi Beach and Akashi Beach. The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Shiraho Beach, get outside with Cape Hirakubozaki, examine the collection at MInsah Kogei Museum, and kick back and relax at Maezato Beach.

Darwin, Australia to Ishigaki is an approximately 17-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight, taxi, and ferry. Traveling from Darwin in February, expect Ishigaki to be a bit cooler, temps between 25°C and 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) so you can travel to Hiroshima.

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Wed): head off the coast to Miyajima and then contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate the long history of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, get engrossed in the history at Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and then see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

Traveling by combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Hiroshima takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Traveling from Ishigaki in February, things will get much colder in Hiroshima: highs are around 11°C and lows about 3°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Head to Dotonbori and Yu Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten Japan City Nara Sanjofor some retail therapy. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka Castle (in Osaka) and Nara (Nara Park & Todaiji Temple Cultural Center). The adventure continues: take a stroll through Gion, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, and don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 11°C in February, and nighttime lows around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Tokyo.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Head to Ginza and Takeshita Streetfor plenty of shopping. Odaiba and Edo-Tokyo Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of Tokyo with an excursion to Ghibli Museum Mitaka in Mitaka--about 44 minutes away. There's much more to do: make a trip to Tokyo National Museum, explore the galleries of Fukagawa Edo Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sensō-ji, and take a stroll through Asakusa.
