Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Tokyo National Museum and National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation Miraikan. Visit Senso-ji Temple and Yasukuni Shrine for their historical value. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Ghibli Museum Mitaka in Mitaka, about 44 minutes away. There's much more to do: examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, get your game on at Owl cafe Akiba Fukurou, get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, and admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower.

Las Vegas, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 15.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Pacific Standard Time (PST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 17 hour difference. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Popular historic sites such as Nijo Castle and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are in your itinerary. Get a sense of the local culture at Nara Park and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Step out of Kyoto to go to Nara and see Todai-ji Temple, which is approximately 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, examine the collection at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan, steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine, and don't miss a visit to Gion.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 74°F in October, and nighttime lows around 60°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Fri) early enough to take a train to Himeji.
