Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
On the 17th (Tue), enjoy the sand and surf at Yonehara Beach, then enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, and then enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get outside with Outdoor Activities, then kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach, and then take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier.

Singapore, Singapore to Ishigaki is an approximately 11-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Ishigaki. In August, plan for daily highs up to 38°C, and evening lows to 32°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Wed) early enough to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Get outdoors at Yabiji and Kayaking & Canoeing. Step off the beaten path and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Kurima Bridge. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, stroll through Sunayama Beach, and snap pictures at Irabu Ohashi.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Eikando Zenrinji Temple. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kinkaku-ji. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Osaka Castle in Osaka, approximately 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, and wander the streets of Gion.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Kyoto in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of flight and bus. August in Kyoto sees daily highs of 39°C and lows of 29°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Thu) early enough to travel to Yakushima-cho.

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
