The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto to go to Osaka and see Universal Studios Japan, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. And it doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ryoanji Temple, examine the collection at Kyoto International Manga Museum, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Traveling by car from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around °C in July, and nighttime lows around °C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en, thenmake a trip to Himeji Castle, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yoneda Taishiji Temple. Here are some ideas for day two: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura, enjoy the sand and surf at Matsue Swimming Beach, and then don't miss a visit to Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
