Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. You'll gain 1 hour traveling from Sydney to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Sydney in April: high temperatures in Tokyo hover around 22°C and lows are around 12°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Head to Dotonbori and Asahiyakifor plenty of shopping. Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Osaka Castle (in Osaka) and Daitokuji Temple (in Kyotanabe). There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Gion, explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In April, daytime highs in Kyoto are 22°C, while nighttime lows are 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Thu): admire the natural beauty at Koko-en, step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yoneda Taishiji Temple, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ishino Hoden Oishi Shrine.

Getting from Kyoto to Himeji by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a bus. April in Himeji sees daily highs of 20°C and lows of 14°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.
