Ranking as the most popular ski resort in Hokkaido, mountaintop Niseko-cho boasts great slopes and surprisingly vibrant nightlife.
Explore Niseko-cho's surroundings by going to Silo Viewing Platform (in Toyako-cho) and Noboribetsu Date Historic Village (in Noboribetsu). And it doesn't end there: head outdoors with Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Place, get engrossed in the history at Arishima Memorial Center, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Toya, and hit the slopes at Niseko Village Ski Resort.

A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): make a trip to Hachimanzaka, get to know the fascinating history of Motomachi, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Hakodate, then contemplate the long history of Goryokaku Dozo, then stroll through Goryokaku Park, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Goryokaku Tower.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Asahikawa to Hakodate in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a train. Traveling from Asahikawa in December, you will find days in Hakodate are somewhat warmer (3°C), and nights are about the same (-3°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) so you can drive to Otaru.
