A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
On the 26th (Sun), take in the spiritual surroundings of Yafurai Tenmangu, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Trappist Monasteries, then get to know the fascinating history of Onuma Park Walking Path, then admire the striking features of Kyu Soma-tei, and finally wander the streets of Motomachi. Here are some ideas for day two: look for gifts at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, browse the eclectic array of goods at Hakodate Morning Market, boost your wellbeing at a local thermal spa, then admire the landmark architecture of Goryokaku Park, and finally steep yourself in history at Goryokaku Dozo.

Kutchan-cho's reputation rests on two things: skiing and potatoes.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Tue): fly down the slopes at Niseko Hanazono Resort, then fly down the slopes at Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, and then explore the activities along Mt. Yotei Spring Water. On your second day here, get outside with Hokkaido Backcountry Club and then hit the slopes at Rusutsu Resort Ski.

You can drive from Hakodate to Kutchan-cho in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of flight and train. While traveling from Hakodate, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Kutchan-cho, ranging from highs of 9°C to lows of 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Shakotan-cho.
