A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Thu): see exotic creatures in open habitats at a safari tour, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and then stop by With Sugar. A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
On the 15th (Sat), enjoy some diversion at Esplanade Lagoon Pool, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and then take a leisurely stroll along The Jack Barnes Bicentennial Mangrove Boardwalk. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 16th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Esplanade Boardwalk, surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Palm Cove Beach.

The state of Victoria crown jewel, Melbourne boasts shaded streets, leafy residential neighborhoods, vibrant street life, and a picturesque city center.
Step out of Melbourne with an excursion to The Great Ocean Road in Torquay--about 1h 20 min away. There's lots more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Botanic Gardens, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, walk around Fitzroy Gardens, and see the interesting displays at Melbourne Museum.
