Vagharshapat

Vagharshapat is most populous town in the Armavir Province of Armenia, located about 18km west of the capital Yerevan, and 10km north of the closed Turkish-Armenian border. Get some cultural insight at Echmiadzin Monastery and The Churches of Echmiatsin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Amberd Fortress and Saint Mariane Church. Take a break from Vagharshapat with a short trip to National Museum of Armenian Ethnography and History of the Liberation Struggle in Araks, about 42 minutes away. There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Saint Hripsime Church, delve into the distant past at Didikond Complex, pause for some photo ops at Ziarat Yazidi Temple, and make a trip to Urartian Settlement.

Alaverdi

Alaverdi, is a town in the Lori Province at the northeastern part of Armenia, near the border with Georgia. Start off your visit on the 5th (Fri): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Monastery of Sanahin, then take an in-depth tour of Mikoyan Brothers Museum, then pause for some serene contemplation at Odzun Church, and finally contemplate the long history of Kayan Fortress. On the next day, steep yourself in history at Sanahin Bridge, pause for some serene contemplation at Akhtala Monastery, then make a trip to Khorakert Monastery, and finally delve into the distant past at Khuchapi Monastery.

Drive from Vagharshapat to Alaverdi in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and bus; or take a train. The time zone changes from Armenia Standard Time to Turkey Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Vagharshapat in June; daily highs in Alaverdi reach 28°C and lows reach 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Sevan.

Sevan

Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Noratus Cemetery and Haghartsin Monastery. Explore hidden gems such as Goshavank Monastery and Memorial Museum of Orbeli Brothers.
